Dr. George Atia

Dr. Atia started his private practice in 2002 and it has been rapidly growing ever since. He completed his fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago and has also completed advanced training in ERCP and EUS. Dr. Atia is the founder and medical director of the Illinois Center for Digestive and Liver Health.

Dr. Stacey L McKelvey MD

Dr. Stacey L McKelvey MD has more than a decade of experience as a board certified specialist in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. She practices general Gastroenterology including esophageal disease, celiac disease, colorectal cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, and functional diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Dr. McKelvey graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, earning dual degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She completed medical school, her residency in internal medicine, and her gastroenterology fellowship at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She remained on staff after completing her fellowship and trained residents and fellows in endoscopy and other clinical aspects of gastroenterology. In 2006, she moved to Princeton, New Jersey, where she joined Princeton Gastroenterology and served on staff at the University Hospital at Princeton. In 2014, Dr. McKelvey relocated to the Midwest with her husband and three children to be closer to her extended family. She spends her time hiking, biking and raising her very energetic children.

Professional Activities
After completing fellowship training, Dr. Kailas worked in private practice at a multi-specialty clinic in WI. In addition to patient care, during this time she was active within the medical staff at the St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac and was asked to serve on many Medical Executive Committees including being Chief of Staff. In addition she served an 8 year term on Wisconsin Medical Examining Board including 2 years Chair. Other professional activities included a 7 year term on USMLE Management Committee , a 2 year term with FSMB Nominating Committee, multiple leadership positions with the Fond du Lac Chapter of WI Medical Society , multiple years at St. Agnes Hospital Foundation and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Fond du Lac to name a few. She is recognized in the community both for her professional work and other community engagements.

She enjoys biking, swimming, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

She is passionate about providing the best care to her patients and becomes ecstatic when a sick patient recovers and comes back to see her in the clinic healthy and happy. She prides in listening to her patients rather than track data and numbers only and is quite approachable

Vivek Mehta, MD

Dr. Mehta has been in Gastroenterology practice since 1994. He brings vast experience in all aspects of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Hepatology. He did his Medical School in India and then did his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. where he was also given the award for Endoscopic Excellence. Dr. Mehta believes in treating patients with education, science and compassion. In his free time, he likes to travel, explore outdoors and spend time with his wife and two adult daughters.


Dr. Bhairvi Jani, MD

Board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine, Dr. Jani earned her medical degree from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. She completed her internal medicine residency at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, MO, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Saint Louis University.   

Dr. Jani's special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer prevention and screening, celiac disease, gastrointestinal motility disorders, hepatitis C and other liver related disorders. 

She specializes in screening procedures including upper endoscopy procedures with intervention, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement. 

In 2022, Dr. Jani relocated to the Chicago area with her husband and her daughter to be closer to her extended family. She spends her free time hiking and swimming, and enjoys music. 


Dr. Ruchi Patel, MD

Dr. Ruchi Patel grew up in Schaumburg Illinois, completed her Gastroenterology training through Midwestern University, Arizona where she also served as a Chief Gastroenterology Fellow during her final year of training. She also finished Transplant Hepatology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Her areas of interest include liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening as well as medical education. Outside of medicine, she enjoys playing golf, kickboxing and spending time with her family and friends.


Kasey Schwarz, APRN, FNP-C

Board certified Family Nurse Practitioner that graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing with her Master’s Degree in Nursing.  She has over 15 years experience as a Registered Nurse working in many areas including GI/Endoscopy, Oncology, Ambulatory Surgery, and Medical/Surgical bedside care.  She is Board Certified with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners ( AANP).  She is originally from Souther Illinois, currently residing in the northwestern suburbs with her husband and two sons.


Renee Evans, ACNP-BC

Renee Evans is a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the University of Iowa School of Nursing with her BSN and practiced as a staff RN for six years. She then completed her Master of Science in Nursing, graduating from Loyola University Chicago. She has been an Advanced Practice Nurse for over 10 years and has extensive experience in critical care, gastroenterology, hepatology, and transplant surgery. She lives locally with her husband and two children. 


Karen Rottler, NP

Karen Rottler is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner.   She graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and practiced as a staff RN for four years.  She then graduated with her Master’s of Science in Nursing from University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Karen has been an Advanced Practice Nurse for over 13 years.  Karen received training for high resolution anoscopies (HRA) in Chicago in 2019.  She lives in Chicago with her husband.  In her free time, she enjoys biking, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her family and friends.
